The Japan Logistics Management Association (JLA) and the Japanese Council of Logistics Management (JCLM), each with 22 years of experience, merged to establish the Japan Institute of Logistics Systems (JILS) to promote efficiency and advancements in logistics.
Objective
The economic environment has changed dramatically as a result of the globalization of economic activities and the advances of information networks brought about by technological innovations. Against this backdrop, it has become more important than ever to accurately assess market trends and to provide the products and services demanded by customers in a timely and efficient manner. In tandem, there is an ever growing concern for the global environment. It is essential that company activities take the environment into account through such protective efforts as resource preservation and improved waste management.
When considering its management strategy for the future, it is imperative that corporate management build logistics systems that are geared toward optimum integration of the entire business spectrum. Such a system needs to incorporate the complete supply chain -from procurement, manufacturing, sales and distribution through to waste management and recycling. JILS is a nonprofit organization established for the purpose of responding to these contemporary needs of society.
