The Hong Kong Logistics Association (HKLA) is a professional institute, which was established in 1996 under the Societies Ordinance and incorporated as a Limited by Guarantee in 2002. Its objectives are to provide a forum for local logistics professionals to expand and develop their understanding and skills in the practical implementation of operational and strategic aspects of logistics.
HKLA has participated in all major logistics issues. The Association is currently a member of the Committee on Hong Kong Logistics Development Council, the Economic Bureau of HKSAR and is also a member of the Transport and Physical Distribution Training Board of Vocational Training Council.
HKLA has teamed up with Hong Kong Productivity Council to provide formal professional training (Professional Diploma) for the logistics practitioners in 1998 which was the pioneer at that time. It also has supported the Education and Manpower Bureau's Springboard projects run under Caritas Adult and Higher Education. In addition, HKLA has organized exchange programme for our China counterparts.
HKLA also cooperate with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to promote Hong Kong logistics service to the world market by organizing seminars and exhibitions.
HKLA is political neutral body which has around 1400 members who are coming from different sectors in logistics such as shipping, freight forwarding, IT, retails. The Association is managed by a Council (all Council members are volunteers).
Hong Kong Logistics Association has received recognition from the international logistics community. In 2002, HKLA has form strategic partner with the International Society of Logistics (SOLE) and the American Society of Transport and Logistics (AST&L), USA. The purpose of these strategic partnership agreements is to introduce the Logistics Certification Scheme to Hong Kong and Southern China. There are two Certification Schemes, namely the Certified Professional Logistician (CPL) and the Certified in Transportation and Logistics (CTL). In 2003, Hong Kong Logistics Association made the agreement with China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing (CFLP) for providing the China Logistician Examination in Hong Kong.
Moreover, Hong Kong Logistics Association also actively participates in the activities of the European Logistics Association (ELA) and has been nominated as the representative in the Pearl River Delta by the International Multi Modal Transport Association (IMMTA) in 2003.
